CANADA – DAY 5 -
WHISTLER TO SUN PEAKS
We travel along scenic Duffy Lake Road lined with thick
forest, rocks and rivers/lakes lining the road.
The theme song for our bus is a Canadian folk Classic ….”Rocks and Trees, Trees and Rocks………and
water”
We stop at the town of Lillooet for lunch….soup and
ham/chicken roll plus coffee = $5.00 + tax.
Owner of the supermarket/ general store was very friendly,
coming out and providing an information booklet to us all of the town and the
area.
In the afternoon we travel to the picturesque ski resort of
Sun Peaks. On The way we travel through
the large city of Kamloops, which we will return through via train. We sight a couple of slow moving freight
trains, which can be up to 2 klms long.
We arrive at Sun Peaks mid afternoon. It is a village similar to Whistler, but much
smaller in size and the adrenalin factor much less. There are activities such as go carting down
an inclined race track, golf driving range, jumping in sling shots as well as
gift shops.
We head off around 5:00pm in an old school bus for a drive
to a nearby lake for a group canoe on the lake.
After a 20 minute drive we arrive at the lake and all are put into Life
jackets and given an oar, then loaded into canoes of around 8-9 t0 a canoe.
We are in the first and have difficulty in working as a co-ordinated
team. It is very peaceful on the lake
and we are paddling for about 40 minutes.
Just an hour or so before it was quite windy and the tour guides
indicated that there were white caps on the lake. Our time it was still and very flat.
WE arrive back and then head off to the Voyageur Restaurant
for hearty fur traders feast of fish and pork on the one dish…..we were all
supposed to have worked up an appetite with the canoeing.
It is the off to our
room in a swiss style chalet hopefully for some sleep….as usual it is a very
disjointed night’s sleep. When getting
ready for bed, we realise why the oscillating fan was operating……the carpet was
damp, possibly been shampooed and cleaned.
