CANADA DAY 2 –
VICTORIA – VANCOUVER ISLAND
We start the day with a great breakfast in the outside
dining area overlooking the bay. It
promises to be another warm sunny day. Watching
us was a Peregrine Falcon and we spied a group of otters playing in the rocks.
As we walk into the City Centre, we pass a number of old
mansions and then come to the impressive Legislature building for the Province
of British Columbia. We go on the free
guided tour of the building and are amazed at the inside design. A character actor portrays the first female
politician – circa 1920s. An hour well
spent.
Then it is off to walk through the main City Mall –
Government Road……we see interesting art / artefacts of Canadian Aboriginal art
and sculpture. As it is warming up to
mid – high 20s, we decide it is time for a non-alcoholic drink at the “Bard
& Banker”…the girls having Cucumber & Mint Soda, Ian with a Root Beer
and Michael a Ginger Beer.
We find a very interesting Gallery of jade carvings and the
like…….Fine if you can afford beautifully carved objects starting at $10,000.00
to a high of $70,000.00
Quick simple lunch in a Food Court and then onto a Hop-on /
Hop-off bus to cover the bottom of the island and the City areas…..all again
guilty of nodding off at some stage during the informative trip.
Back to Fisherman’s Wharf to attempt to feed the seals….only
one seen and totally disinterested in the fish heads. The large gulls were very persistent and
noisy given that Ian had a tray with a lid to stop them diving towards the
tray.
Pre-dinner drinks outside and then onto a meeting of [2]
Evergreen Tour Groups, each of around 45.
Cousin Terri and husband Roger would have been in the other
tour group which filled up first.
Met some travellers who are from Montrose and The Basin,
which are both nearby our Mt Evelyn.
A Milo before bed then attempt to sleep…the rooms are quite
warm overnight
